Dreaming of Being Stung on the Eye by a Scorpion/Spider

Dreams Decoded here. Post your dream and I will do my best to help you understand what your subconscious is trying to tell you. Go ahead and post your dream, I dare you..

Dream from the mailbag:

I had this dream today (October 31) when I took a nap after school (about 4:43-8:30ish) I can’t remember the whole thing. In my dream, I got stung/bit above my right eye by a scorpion/spider hybrid (a black spider with a black scorpion tail). As a result of this, my right eye… I don’t know if it was sunken, or the skin around it swollen, and I had like a growth/wart hanging over the inside corner of my eye. My dad said the doctor told him that it was never going to go away. Apparently, I was lucky, because these things were deadly. And it was a deliberate attack. Someone put the spider thing on my dresser, which for some reason was outside my room (and my room was at what dream me thought of as my college, but awake me thinks was some kind of mall).

Also in my dream, there was a lady from my school’s math lab. In real life, I don’t even know her name. In the dream, I got the sense that she was a good friend/ally. There were also two people from my art history class, a girl and a guy. I know the girl and we’re class friends, and while I also know the guy, I can’t remember his name. Turns out, in the dream, the guy was a traitor somehow. I can’t remember why, but I remember feeling betrayed.

Then me and the girl were walking to another class (which we don’t do since we don’t have any other classes together and don’t hang out) through what looked like a grocery store/mall. I got the sense that it was cold (AC on high) and there were party streamers in, I think, black and white.

I remember walking down some stairs (the girl was no longer with me) and there was this square platform at the bottom. I think I ignored this and raced to the elevator, catching it just before the doors closed. Apparently, the elevator didn’t like having an additional passenger boarding after it was originally going to carry two (girl and guy, don’t know them). It rumbled, jerked forward and possibly to the right and stayed tilted. I remember commenting on it (or possibly apologizing), and I got off as soon as the doors opened.

I think I ended up in my math class, because my math teacher was there, but we weren’t studying math. The betrayer was there, I think. I was supposed to have done some research that I hadn’t done. Can’t remember what it was. I want to say Nelson’s Theory, but I don’t know what that is (or if it’s a real thing), and it doesn’t sound right anyhow. The layout of the room was a bit square-ish, I think.

Then I remember walking past a room where my math teacher seemed to be holding an after test lesson, which I was missing out on because I (like others) had left when I was done with the test (we actually had a test today).

Also, I can’t remember where exactly in the sequence this scene took place, but I remember being in the college library and either actually seeing the spider thing crawling around, or seeing it in a book. Or being told about it. I can’t remember exactly.

When I was waking up, in that still mostly asleep state, I was half expecting to actually have that bite/sting on my face.

I don’t really remember what I was feeling during this dream, except betrayal and, at one point, pain.

I look forward to you interpretation. Thank you.

Dream Decoded:

Thank you for sharing your dream with me, lets jump right in…

In my dream, I got stung/bit above my right eye by a scorpion/spider hybrid (a black spider with a black scorpion tail).

Spiders and scorpions are not generally considered friendly, lovable types but are instead things that people fear or run away from. Interestingly enough, according to Google, a scorpion spider and eight-legged scorpions do exist only they don’t resemble the description you mention.  Symbolically though, spiders are known to represent creation due in part to their most famous talent of web weaving and some think it represents a fear, whereas scorpions are said to represent defensiveness, solitude and poison. My suspicion is that perhaps you have tried something dangerous, or at least, have been eyeing it…

I don’t know if it was sunken, or the skin around it swollen, and I had like a growth/wart hanging over the inside corner of my eye.

Something has had an effect on the way you are looking at things. Either something has yet to ‘sink in’ or is beginning to grow. The inside corner of your eye, makes me think that it is something internal, personal and on the peripheral. In other words, this some thing dangerous might also be something that you aren’t able to look at head directly. Perhaps it is a way you are looking at things that is effecting your vision.

Do you feel like this thing in your life has changed permanently? You mentioned that it was on your dresser, that it was deliberate and that the effects of this dangerous thing will never go away. Might there be something you tried, something a friend provided or something you got from someone not so close to you. There is a sense, that you feel you got off easy but not without consequences, and perhaps you fear these consequences might last. In your dream, you thought you were at college, but upon waking, your observations tell you something otherwise… perhaps you thought it would be a learning experience. When you say “mall” I think of “maul” like being hurt or knocked around a bit instead. And there is also a feeling that you don’t take responsibility for this thing, someone left it for you.

Also in my dream, there was a lady from my school’s math lab… In the dream, I got the sense that she was a good friend/ally. There were also two people from my art history class, a girl and a guy. I know the girl and we’re class friends, and while I also know the guy, I can’t remember his name. Turns out, in the dream, the guy was a traitor somehow. I can’t remember why, but I remember feeling betrayed.

My idea here is that you are wanting things to add up, maybe by seeking help from a friend. It is interesting that you say ally, because to be an ally, you and they are often united against something. And then you mention a traitor in your midst and betrayal. Sounds to me like there has been some loyalty lost and now distrust by someone you don’t really know well to begin with. Perhaps the lady represents someone who is looking out for you and is helping you to add things up. Personally, when I see people in my dream that I don’t know, then my first thoughts are that they could represent principals and not people. A man might represent an action or activity, while a woman can represent creativity and receptivity. To be betrayed, you must have first had trust in something…

Then me and the girl were walking to another class (which we don’t do since we don’t have any other classes together and don’t hang out) through what looked like a grocery store/mall. I got the sense that it was cold (AC on high) and there were party streamers in, I think, black and white.

You are moving along, learning but also looking or searching for something. According to thermodynamics, what we know as ‘cold’ is actually the abstinence of heat. In our reality, all living things give off heat. In your dream, you encountered extreme coldness, the whiff of a party and polarity… I get the sense that this has to do with the way you are looking at things, coldly, not too seriously, like everything is black and white.

I remember walking down some stairs (the girl was no longer with me) and there was this square platform at the bottom.

Movement, either up or down can represent levels of thinking, perhaps you were sinking into lower levels of thinking or coming down from something…

So you changed course slightly, thinking it would help you get to where you are going more quickly. The elevator could represent a quicker way to move up and down, a short cut to higher or lower levels of thinking…and as soon as the opportunity you are looking for comes along, you will be able to leave this ‘elevator’ behind, or so you think.

Back to math class, adding things up, making sense of the world. I did a search for Nelson’s Theory and found ‘John H. Nelson’s theory of propagation’ which has something to do with the movement of the planets but it went over my head a bit. Besides, I’m not convinced it has much to do with your dream except for the idea that you feel like you should have ‘done your research’ first. This is the second ‘square’ shaped thing you mentioned, the first you avoided (or ignored), this time you are right in the middle of it. Squares are solid, they don’t roll easily; they are grounded, even, stable and can represent reality.

Then I remember walking past a room where my math teacher seemed to be holding an after test lesson, which I was missing out on because I (like others) had left when I was done with the test…

Do you think you missed out on something that might have helped you to learn or understand a life lesson? Perhaps you didn’t give yourself an opportunity to let this lesson sink in.

Also, I can’t remember where exactly in the sequence this scene took place, but I remember being in the college library and either actually seeing the spider thing crawling around, or seeing it in a book. Or being told about it. I can’t remember exactly.

It is my suspicion that your dream is about something dangerous (potentially deadly) that you have evolved yourself in. Something that came into your life perhaps for the right reasons, but instead of having a positive effect on your life and the way you see things, it is actually harmful. I think your subconscious expressing the ideas that you have let something dangerous have an effect on how you see things and maybe how you are behaving. Might you be looking for a faster or simpler way to get over your problems. Some way to ‘elevate’ your thinking or feelings but it’s really only bringing you down. The dual nature of things is also quite redundant in your dream, the idea of black and white, male and female; opposites.

All in all, I fear your dream might be expressing a dangerous relationship with something in your life (my wild guess is it is a substance), something that is causing you to see things in a less than healthy way. This dangerous thing has an effect on your body, your ability to think and see things clearly. The betrayal and pain you feel could be a result of this relationship, what you may have thought was a good (or harmless) thing turns out to be the opposite. Perhaps you are only doing it because you think it will open doors for you and when they open ( like the elevator door) you will be able to ‘get off’ it. Perhaps you are only doing it to learn, or elevate your level of thinking. Whatever the reason, I suspect your subconscious is suggesting that what you are really searching for is stability and groundedness. Learning, making sense of things and putting things together for yourself is what you really want to do, and perhaps letting go of whatever is standing in the way of finding that is the heart of this dream message.

I hope this helps!

UPDATE: DREAMERS RESPONSE:

Thank you so much! A lot makes sense, although I can’t think of what this dangerous thing could be. I’ve never even thought of taking drugs. Someone in my building does though. I can smell it sometimes and it does make me a little nervous. I try to hold my breath when walking past. That might be it.

Thanks again!
