Dreaming of an Orca

Dreams Decoded here. Post your dream and I will do my best to help you understand what your subconscious is trying to tell you. Go ahead and post your dream, I dare you..

Dream from the mailbag:

I’ll give you a snippet of a recent dream I had.

I’m standing in the middle of the ocean on one of those wave-breaker things, barely hanging on as my limbs alternately fall into the water. I wasn’t getting dismembered, I just meant I was being clumsy and my arms and legs would just alternatively splash into the water as I tried to hold on to the slippery breaker. I’m scared that a shark or some other unseen thing will grab me.

I see a fin rise up a short distance away and start to freak out. I try to get as high up onto the breaker as I can so that my feet don’t get eaten. The animal surfaces and it’s an orca. I feel a split second of relief but then remember that orcas are carnivorous and he may very well be hungry enough to eat me.

He starts swimming towards me and I realize he’s smiling and friendly. He swims circles around me and starts acting like a smart playful bottle-nosed dolphin and even nudges me with his head the way one of my cats might have done in real life.

At this point I’m able to look around me, and can take in the reflection of the suns rays upon the calm waves…

And while still dreaming, I remember a previous recurrent dream I would have about swimming in a cove with a whale… a whale that would always turn out to be a plastic blow-up floater thing.

In this most recent dream, though, the whale was real and he was my friend.

Dream Decoded:

Well, let see what this snippet turns into…

I’m standing in the middle of the ocean on one of those wave-breaker things, barely hanging on as my limbs alternately fall into the water. I wasn’t getting dismembered, I just meant I was being clumsy and my arms and legs would just alternatively splash into the water as I tried to hold on to the slippery breaker. I’m scared that a shark or some other unseen thing will grab me.

Might you feel out of place or stranded in ‘unfamiliar waters’, holding on for dear life and maybe holding on to one stable thing in your life. It is interesting that you begin standing, yet the rest of your imagery describes a far less composed position… “clumsy” and your limbs don’t seem to be cooperating with what you see as important things that need to be successful or useful in order for you to “stay above water”. Maybe you have been overwhelmed by emotions lately…Perhaps you are looking at a particular situation in your life and feel this way, like it is this vast and powerful thing that you are standing in the middle of, you don’t think you are particularly safe, and there is a threat of some outside unknown that is haunting. Could be a job or career pool perhaps; going out into the world.  Perhaps it is how you feel about what is going on in your life at this time…

Back to the job pool idea, perhaps this “whale” could be seen as an opportunity or a choice, and a is seen as a great big one…however you might wonder if the responsibilities are too great or you might get “swallowed up”. Is there a choice or opportunity in your life where the emotional reaction you had toward the dream orca is being reflected? It could be some large, new “whale of an idea”. It could be prophetic of a new relationship with someone. Do you have a new friend that came to your aid right when you were freaking out? Maybe you felt apprehensive about this.

This is the answer to your fear of this person or choice: instead of what might seem daunting, you will find someone who can “swim circles around you” or in other words, the whale will bring healthy challenges, smart and playful energy with the potential to lovingly nudge you in the right direction. Perhaps this experience will allow you to look around and really reflect on your life and the beauty of the world around you. You will be able to see the the world around you with a fresh, calm, and renewed perspective.

And while still dreaming, I remember a previous recurrent dream I would have about swimming in a cove with a whale… a whale that would always turn out to be a plastic blow-up floater thing. In this most recent dream, though, the whale was real and he was my friend.

Maybe you are reassuring yourself that although things didn’t line up, or work out in the past, things are different now. This is the real deal, not just pretend or hollow dreaming.

All in all, I think your dream is about a very large change, opportunity or person that has joined you on your path in life. In other words, something that you only thought about superficially before is now a real possibility for you. Perhaps you only allowed yourself to be happy and excited about it for a split second before you allowed negative thinking to cloud what should be a wonderful and exciting thing. The fears of clumsily keeping your head barely above water or being swallowed whole by some big scary change can be put to rest because you see now that instead you will find something that will be a good challenge for you; a good, fun, and real companion or situation that will help you move in the direction you are wanting. Sounds like a whale of a friend or a whale of a good time to me!

I hope this helps!
