Dreams Decoded here. Post your dream and I will do my best to help you understand what your subconscious is trying to tell you. Go ahead and post your dream, I dare you..

Dream from the mailbag:

Well, before you decode my dream I would like to tell you about myself, so you can get a better decodation if that’s even a word but anyway I’m a 15 year old African American male I don’t work and just go to regular high school. So, in my dream I was playing basketball which I do a lot in real life and I was just playing with some guys I’ve never met in my old neighborhood which I just recently moved from this summer. Then all of a sudden these Jamaican dudes came around the corner blasting their music you could hear a block away. So everyone runs and so do I. I assumed they had guns and which I’m pretty sure they did. I then split from the group of guys and went to my old house which was locked since I moved and I couldn’t get in. So I went to my neighbors house which my family and theirs had done favors for one another. Their 17 year old daughter came to the door and I asked to use their computer as an excuse to come inside and be safe. But for some unusual reason she brought the computer out to the door for me to use. Then I just cut to the chase and asked to come inside as I could hear the music of the Jamaicans coming down my block. But she had to call and ask her parents if I could as she had had trouble before. Finally the dream ended, I wasn’t shot but I didn’t get in the house as the dream was cut short.

Dream Decoded:

If decodation isn’t a word, it should be one! I love it. Thank you for sharing your dream with me, I shall do my best to help make some sense of things.

So, in my dream I was playing basketball which I do a lot in real life and I was just playing with some guys I’ve never met in my old neighborhood which I just recently moved from this summer.

Ooh fun! Alright so this first part of the dream is telling us the time and place we are talking about. It is setting the stage, I like to say. It tells us where we should begin to look for clues as to how this dream relates to our life. So, we start with the idea of playing basketball, something you do often. This is a game, sport, for fun. Your opponents are unknown to you at this point and whatever this dream is about, the idea started in the recent past; before you moved. So you are just hanging out, living life, doing what you are doing.

Then all of a sudden these Jamaican dudes came around the corner blasting their music you could hear a block away.

This feels like a very scary thing. A strong fear is being explained here. Last night in conversation I wondered if the word “jerk” came from Jamaica, because of their chicken. (I also wondered if Steve Martin had any idea, but that’s probably before your time 😉 I am going to take a wild guess and say that these guys represented people who are not trustworthy, dangerous or otherwise unkind; real jerks. There were signs that these folks were going to cross your path. You heard about it before. You are hearing that these guys will be coming your way.

So everyone runs and so do I. I assumed they had guns and which I’m pretty sure they did. I then split from the group of guys and went to my old house which was locked since I moved and I couldn’t get in.

Were you thinking that you could just run away from the trouble that was coming your way? Everyone else runs, why not you? And this trouble might be life or death. So, you have to split from the group of guys you were with. You try to go back to where you started but there is no going back. What’s done is done. You have moved on. You can’t go back now.

So I went to my neighbors house which my family and theirs had done favors for one another. Their 17 year old daughter came to the door and I asked to use their computer as an excuse to come inside and be safe. But for some unusual reason she brought the computer out to the door for me to use.

Did you reach out for help with this fear that you were having, this fear that something dangerous or deadly is coming. Perhaps you spoke to a friend, maybe an older girl via the computer. But you weren’t completely truthful about things. This person was happy enough to help you, but not in the way that you wanted or felt that you needed. She didn’t let you in. She only helped you from the outside. Not on the inside. Why do you feel unsafe? Why do you want to hide yourself or things about your past. She gave you just what you asked for but didn’t know about your underlying fears so she couldn’t help you with them. You made an excuse instead of telling the truth. If she is not a real person, perhaps she represents a creative part of yourself. You are trying to find answers through your imagination. You are trying to solve this problem without involving adults.

Then I just cut to the chase and asked to come inside as I could hear the music of the Jamaicans coming down my block. But she had to call and ask her parents if I could as she had had trouble before.

You admit that you are frightened about the things that are coming your way. And this person that you want help from isn’t able to do so without a parents help. She is not the decision maker. Even though she is almost an adult, she still answers to someone.  So, even though you do the right thing and come clean, the person you do this with is not the final person who has a say in how things go. In other words, she isn’t the person you need to ask help from about this specific problem. But she will help you get closer to someone who can, in this case her parents. But this person can relate because they have had that sort of trouble before.

Finally the dream ended, I wasn’t shot but I didn’t get in the house as the dream was cut short.

All in all I think your dream is response to being haunted by something in your past; you’re afraid to “face the music”. Something that started before you moved and you thought you could run from it.  Maybe you asked for help but weren’t completely honest about things with this person at first. But eventually you were forced or will be forced to come clean about your real intentions or needs. Even though you do the right thing and tell the truth, you will have to eventually tell the parents if you want to get the help you think you need. In the end you will get through this. You will live. You will not die. And you are already safe even if she doesn’t let you into her house. Love to you, dear boy.

I hope this helps!
