Dreaming of a Daughter Drowning

Dreams Decoded here. Post your dream and I will do my best to help you understand what your subconscious is trying to tell you. Go ahead and post your dream, I dare you..

Dream from the mailbag:

I dreamed that my 11 year old son and 9 year old daughter were on a field-trip with some other kids.  They were meeting up with us at an amusement park later.  On the way, they all decided to go swimming in a river or lake.  In my dream the water is rushing sometimes but not other times so I’m not sure.  About 5 kids drown including my daughter and the neighbors daughter across the street.  A search team went out scuba diving looking for them and found some other drowning victims from years ago but never found our girls.  My mother was wanting to paint ribbons and balloons on the car windows (on ours and the neighbors).  my husband was present but silent. I remember crying uncontrollably all during my dream but I was so hopeful because I said I can’t let go or give up if you didn’t find her.  She could still be alive.  I didn’t see her drown.  i just heard the news from others and i envisioned the whole incident in my head of what might have happened. I thought she may have gotten out of the water and been kidnapped, she may be wondering the streets.  And I woke up crying.  Now I am scared.  My husband was no comfort at all this morning either.  He just said its just a dream, it’s not real, but it traumatized me.  Please help me understand……:-(

Dream Decoded:

Traumatic dreams can represent important feelings and thoughts that are being experienced in life but also might be going unnoticed. As per usual, let us set the scene…

I dreamed that my 11 year old son and 9 year old daughter were on a field-trip with some other kids.  They were meeting up with us at an amusement park later.

So, the idea being explained here is that both of your children are having experiences outside of the normal home and school environment. It is kids being kids, having fun with more fun on the way.

On the way, they all decided to go swimming in a river or lake.

At first, seems innocent enough. They decided to change the plans, they all jumped into things together. Perhaps this was the first trigger, they are making choices on their own.

In my dream the water is rushing sometimes but not other times so I’m not sure.  About 5 kids drown including my daughter and the neighbors daughter across the street.

It seems to me, that these girls got into something way over their heads. Something either they thought they could handle but could not, or something you feared that they could not handle. 5 is number of change, but it could represent a group of girls or your daughters friends who are all coming into their own at the same time. Water, in general, is essential for life. But it also can represent the flow of life, the flow of life-force energy, and sexual energy, as I suspect might have something to do with your dream.

A search team went out scuba diving looking for them and found some other drowning victims from years ago but never found our girls.

Interesting, perhaps parents are doing some research on how to reconnect with their kids about these topics at this age. There are always stories of horrible things that have happened to others, but there is no real evidence that this is happening to your ‘girls’.

My mother was wanting to paint ribbons and balloons on the car windows (on ours and the neighbors).

Sounds like your mom is wanting to throw a party or at least draw attention to what is happening. She wants to get the word out.

my husband was present but silent.

Hubby has not to much to say on the matter.

It sounds like the subject being addressed in the dream is particularly upsetting to you. You are filled with doubt, uncertainty, and listening to the horror stories of others which is only making you imagine all these unhelpful things. You are worried for her well being, her direction in life and where she might be taken.

Here is my wild guess: might your daughter be about to or has she recently started her menses? Would explain why grandma wants to celebrate the situation or event, or at least make the information public. Either way, I think this dream is expressing fears you have about your daughter’s social life. Perhaps her friends are talking, joking, learning, wondering about grown-up topics or things that you wouldn’t expect your little princess to talk about. I don’t think they ever found your daughter or the neighbors in the lake because they simply weren’t there. You just feared they were. You have been fearing things that you have been hearing about and are letting those unhelpful ideas have real impact on how you feel and think.

All in all, I think this dream is about fears you have about your daughter and how she will be able to swim through the social situations in her life. You have heard all these horror stories, but they are not your daughter. They are not your kids. You envisioned the whole thing in your head with the worst possible scenario instead of the best. My advice would be to begin to imagine all the wonderful things that this event might bring. Base your emotions on what is actually in front of you and not what you hear.

I do hope this helps and brings you some sort of peace about this dream so at least you don’t have to feel yucky about it anymore!

  1. You are awesome……I started my period at twelve but the doctor did recently inform us about my daughter most likely starting at 10 which is 4 months away. My husband absolutely refuses to talk about any of “that stuff”. And no, he didn’t even cut our kids umbilical cords….:-). He gets grossed out or embarrassed about that stuff so I am the one to always explain. Your interpretation makes perfect since and definitely helped me deal with my fears. It won’t happen over night but at least I can look for the issues and conquer this head on. Oh and my mom is totally the type to celebrate and throw a coming of age party…..:-). Thank you so much!

  2. I dream that me daughter was drowning in a swimming pool but when I jump in there to save her she wasn’t there

  3. I had a dream tonight that my 2 year old daughter fell off a balcony into dirty water like muggy pond water. I jumped in to save her and I couldn’t find her. I didn’t give up and after a while I found her and expected her to be dead. I thought I was going to have to do CPR on her and bring her back. Supprising when I found her she was alive but lifeless and she told me her belly hurt. Nobody would help me and I yelled at everyone screaming,” I found her and shes alive'” and swore at them all. Through out this dream I felt extreamly panicy and helpless.
